Woodington, South Lenoir win Battle of the Books titles
The team from Woodington won the 2024 middle school title in impressive fashion, going undefeated in head-to-head battles while earning the school’s 11th championship in the past 13 contests. South Lenoir won the 2024 high school championship with a six-member team that included five freshmen, all veterans of Battle of the Books play at their former middle school – Woodington.

Students qualify for state science competitions
Thirty-two students representing individual and team projects from nine schools won bids to the state event after top finishes in the Regional Science Fair. At the East Carolina Regional Science Olympiad Tournament, the varsity team from Woodington Middle School finished third overall in the Division B Varsity competition. Teams from Lenoir County Early College High School earned two first-place finishes in the Division C Varsity competition.

Can you spell 'dynasty'? Woodington can!
After winning the annual LCPS Spelling Bee for the past four years with champion spellers who eventually aged out, Woodington found a capable successor in Nikki Bellamy. The seventh grader outlasted the top spellers from the district’s elementary and middle schools on Thursday night to claim a fifth consecutive title for her school.

La Grange pastor chosen to fill school board vacancy
John Wiggins, pastor of La Grange First Missionary Baptist Church, will occupy the seat vacated in December by Keith King, who resigned to accept an appointment to the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners. Wiggins will take his place on the school board at its Feb. 5 meeting, following his swearing in.

In-school immunizations offered
The Lenoir County Health Department is partnering with LCPS nurses to offer in-school immunization clinics the week of March 11-14 for students who need their school-required vaccines. This is for rising 7th graders and rising seniors. Most major insurances are accepted. If your child is uninsured, they can receive their vaccines as well. Forms required for immunization have been distributed to students to take home. If you did not receive a form, one can be downloaded at this link: http://tinyurl.com/5835b638. Please complete the required form and return to your school nurse as soon as possible. No forms will be accepted after Friday, March 1. -
LCPS seeking substitute teachers
Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of young people in Lenoir County by becoming a substitute teacher? LCPS is now taking applications for the 2021-2022 school year. To qualify, applicants must complete an Effective Teacher Training course (offered at Lenoir Community College) or possess a valid teaching license, complete an online application and get on the waiting list for an interview.
